A squat, a social centre a temporary autonomous zone

New Leeds Social Centre

Hi,
A bunch of us are currently in the process of setting up an autonomous social centre in Leeds that we thought could be beneficial to your group. The plan is to buy a building that will provide free or very cheap meeting, workshop and creative spaces, a venue for socialising and to put on fundraisers, a cheap community cafe and some office space for supportive groups, alongside loads of other ideas in the pipeline.

Fundraising and politics.

At previous meetings we have agreed on what we would like: to own a building. This takes money so we need to fundraise, come with suggestions or enthusiasm (or both)

Social Centres in a Time of Crisis

A weekend of workshops, discussions and socialising for everyone with an interest in radical autonomous social centres.

 *   How can a new generation of social centres learn from the successes and failures of established ones? What are the ways in which we can best face up to the challenges?
 *   How can we sustain energy and dynamism? Can we stop the daily grind of actually running a social centre from eclipsing the politics and passion behind it

Rally at Royal Park School!

Come and join us this Monday at 6:30 pm to protest against the Council's intention of making of Royal Park School more student flats. Protest will be outside the school in the corner of Queen's Road and Royal Park Road. Hyde Park has more than 4000 empty rooms for students, we don't need more student flats! What the area needs is community cohesion, a space for young people to stay away from crime and drugs, a space for students and families to get together, learn and have fun! Bring your pans and pots to the protest!

squat network and resource library meeting (SNaRL)

hey.. are you interested in homelessness issues?

SNaRL is a newly formed group which aims to create a non-hierarchial environment in which people can share skills, knowledge and resources about squatting and homelessness so that we can help each other out and create alternatives to the housing advice services offered by the council.

There are two main objectives to ficken

Gardening at Royal Park School

Royal Park School is in need of a nice big, green, clean-up!

Any eager, green-fingered folk are needed to help clear rubbish, sort out the flower beds, and generally make the garden lovely again.

Meet at 12.30 at the Hyde Park allotments, to help carry down some tools, or at 1pm at the School (on Royal Park Road) opposite the Royal Park Pub.

We plan to stay until it gets dark, around 4pm, but feel free to pop down at any time... all helping hands are welcome!
