Spreading to other unis

Great idea

Difficult to set up

Takes time and money

Action: Greta and maybe Judith to set up forum or email list to interested parties at other universities

York + Manchester especially interested

Website and email list

complaints of old system

  • too many emails (av 15 a week)

complaints of new system and defence of old

  • many emails not a problem
  • prefered speed and ease of direct control
  • unsure of new website

possibly just need time to adjust

harder for people posting events but most prefered the new system

set up mechanism to email out urgent notices

Action

: Stick with website for now, Nikolai to help others moderate emails.

Co – op Issues

No shows for co-op duty, must at least give notice

Action

: Email/contact people who are not able to do there shift.  They might be ill or they might be finding it difficult.  We can help if we know and maybe get it covered permanently.

Currently oversubscribed, no lack of volunteers

Need extra people for order day

10-12 and 4-6 Thursdays - Anyone free?

½ shelf free for out there products

Collect small bottles for shampoo, hand-cream e.t.c. (possible source bottle recycle bins)

Cooking demos for unusual co-op stock

Price wars e.g. 17p at co-op, 26p at ASDA

Action

: Angela and Greta to look at this long term.

How tos

Maybe switch suppliers

Goosemoor

  • agro with delivery bloke
  • ethical issues (mainly from friend who is an employee)
  • do not want to abandon them and put them out of business
  • mainly merchants but do grow some produce in-house

Organic Pantry

  • just merchants

not much difference

Action

: None, we make up much of Goosemoors order so should be wary about changing quickly

Vegan-honey problem

Action

: Tim to look into local organic supply

Home-made soya milk

  • H&S, tax issues
  • possible bad press
  • informal deals
  • co-op market?
  • too complex

Wasting Heat

  • University uses combined heat-power
  • more complex, need to investigate, electricity and heat use must both be decreased at same rate
  • if heat not used has to be simply put up chimney (still more efficient than standard system)
  • computer issues?
  • weekly monitoring of usage?
  • unilateral carbon tax?
  • contact estates and council rep

Thanks to Mark for type up the

minutes
