Support for new Bike Co-op

Posted in

Green Action is going to help support the new Bike Co-op iniative at the Common Place.   We think it is important have a place where people can learn how to repair their bikes and be encoraged to take control of their transport and this fits with our philosophy.

We therefore agreed to donate £500 if they are able to secure funding for elsewhere to make the project viable.

Harehills Free Shop

Green Action help a bunch of people put on a free shop in Harehills with tat from students.  It was really nice to be able to give blankets, pots and pans to really needy people in Leeds.  A few times someone would come up and ask "How much?" which meant we could all explain how it was all free!

Freegan Film, want to get involved?

Exec elections 2010

Hi all,

The elections are coming up soon.  I think Green Action should not tell people who to vote for but I do think that some of us know a few of the people standing from various campaigns.  It might be worth while to share some of the information about some of the candidates with you as these people are keenly align to the ethos of Green Action.

Salutations all,

please find here my introduction to "prout" - the rather splendid alternative to capitalism and communism; attached as a word doc (~40 pages). Prout advocates an economy largely based on cooperatives, and i hope you might agree after reading -  is thoroughly sensible all round :)

Yours brotherly,

Ethical & Environmental assembly 2010

 Hi

the next ethical and environmental assembly meeting will be on Monday 25th at 5pm in ARC meeting room 6.

Come and discuss the union council agenda and if you could help in green week with carbon foot print calculating that would be ace!

In future meetings we also need to discuss about how we might go about reforming union democracy as the current system is planned to be changed, but how can we make a system in which more people can be involved in the decision making?

Please come along if you can as we could do with more folks

Co-op email list

This email group was set up for people interested in starting up their own Food Co-op, to show examples, answer questions, offer advice and support for setting up a food co-op.

Setting up a food co-op

There are loads of on-line resources.  These are really helpful.

Sustain has a draft consitiution, food hygine advice and draft documents.  It might sound daunting but this is the place to start.

People and planet are an umbrella student group.  They also mention co-ops but would be an ideal place to recruit members.
