Velocampus and the bike hub

Hello

hope everyone had a good summer and welcome if you are new to Green Action and the union.

I'm doing a work placement this year with the Utravelactive project who run the bike hire and the bike hub at uni.

We'd like to link up with green action more this year and get more cycling skill shares and cycling activism.

Currently there is no Cycling Forum for students or transport issues in the uni, so we were wondering if setting up a cycling forum/cycle campaigning group would be worth a shot?

It wouldn't be a separte society but a forum for anyone interested, although we may require societies to book rooms for us (Green Action, People & Planet). The purpose of a cycling forum would be to share ideas about improving cycling, raise issues or problems about cycling in Leeds or at Uni, to Lobby the council/university to improve cycling facilities, to keep students updated about  the UtravelActive project/bike hub etc, promote critical mass etc.

Bike Hire: If anyone wants to hire a velocampus bike they are £35 for the year plus £100 deposit, but get to the bike hub quick as they will be popular. Visit http://www.leeds.ac.uk/velocampus/  for directions to bike hub

Bike hub: If anyone is interested in helping out at the bike hub or delivering cycling promotion in schools whenever you can we'd love to have you. We have a fully kitted bike workshop, cycling information and bike hire there. Let me know if you are intereted ee08ahatleeds [dot] ac [dot] uk.

If you need to fix your bike or clean it the hub will be open 10am-4pm from 13th-30th September and Wednesday and Thursday 10am-4pm the rest of term.

Cycle training: Most of our team have undertaken cycling instructor courses and soon will be being fully accredited so we will be able to offer cycle training courses or informal cycle training later this year. We are also looking for experienced cyclists who could mentor less confident cyclists on their communte if interested please get in touch ee08ahatleeds [dot] ac [dot] uk

Cheers

Adam
